Schools to compete in badminton tourney

  • Teams which qualified for East Africa secondary school games to be held in Gulu, Uganda, will be on parade at the Coast Open Badminton championships which takes place at Patel Samaj Hall in Mombasa starting on Saturday.
  • The athletes, who booked tickets to the regional games during the Kenya Secondary Schools Term Two ‘B’ national games held in Nyeri early this month will take to the court against the best players in the region as they seek to improve their performance at the regional games which have been dominated by Uganda in the past.

Teams which qualified for East Africa secondary school games to be held in Gulu, Uganda, will be on parade at the Coast Open Badminton championships which takes place at Patel Samaj Hall in Mombasa starting on Saturday.

The athletes, who booked tickets to the regional games during the Kenya Secondary Schools Term Two ‘B’ national games held in Nyeri early this month will take to the court against the best players in the region as they seek to improve their performance at the regional games which have been dominated by Uganda in the past.

Mombasa Badminton Association secretary, Phiona Semogo, on Friday said at least 104 players drawn from the Coast region have confirmed participation in the two-day event which will also bring together players from Aga Khan Academy, Jaffrey Academy, Oshwal Academy, Mombasa Sports Club  and Coast Gymkhana. Semogo has appealed to schools  and colleges to compete in the tournament to familiarise themselves with the latest rules of the game.
