Sigalagala Technical Institute on Tuesday beat Sang’alo Institute 5-0 to lift the Kenya Technical Training Institutes Sports Organisation (Kettiso) rugby sevens title in a closely contested match at Kisumu Polytechnic.

Misiko Collins scored the only try of the match at death to help Sigalagala dethrone the former champions after both teams failed to score any points in the normal time, forcing the match to go into sudden death.

Sigalagala topped Group A after winning all their matches before thrashing Kabete 26-5 in the semi-final to storm the final while Sang’alo topped Kiambu Institute 17-3 in the other semi-final clash.

However, Kabete bounced back to defeat Kiambu 14-5 in the playoffs.

In men’s football, defending champions Friends College Kaimosi remained unbeaten after coming from behind to force a 1-1 draw against a spirited Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technololgy-RVIST at Jomo Kenyatta grounds.

Lamech Murungi shocked the champions after four minutes for the opener but Kaimosi slowly fought back to snatch a point from the match after a brilliant strike form Manta Brian levelled the scores with 11 minutes to the final whistle.

Earlier on, Kabete had escaped with 1-0 win over a tactful Mombasa TTI with Reagan Ouma scoring the solitary goal.

In girls’ basketball, hosts Ramogi Institute of Advanced Technology-Riat and RVTTI made it to the semi-finals from Pool A.

The finals of the championship are set for Wednesday.
