St Anthony, Sinyolo out to defend titles

  • Champions Sinyolo Girls and St Anthony’s Boys Kitale will lead the country’s assault.
  • Sinyolo will be joined by former regional champions Kerugoya and newcomers Tigoi in the girls’ competition.

Kenya will be seeking to extend its dominance in hockey at the Brookside Federation of East African Secondary Schools Sports Association Games which begin in Eldoret on Saturday.

Champions Sinyolo Girls and St Anthony’s Boys Kitale will lead the country’s assault. Sinyolo will be joined by former regional champions Kerugoya and newcomers Tigoi in the girls’ competition.

National champions Friends School Kamusinga and debutantes Upper Hill will are also in the boys’ contest.

Sinyolo coach Alloise Owino is looking to complete a remarkable year with another regional title in Eldoret.

“We want to make it a hat-trick of titles this year. The players know what is at stake,” Owino said on Tuesday.

The Kenyan queens will be up against perennial rivals Kakungulu, Old Kampala and Namagunga of Uganda. They matches will be played in a round robin format. The team with the highest points will be crowned champions.

In the boys’ matches,  St Anthony’s are gunning for a record sixth title while Kamusinga, who won their last regional gong in 2014, will be hunting a fourth crown.
