The 2002 football champions St Anthony’s Boys Kitale are confident of recapturing the title at this year’s Brookside East Africa Secondary School Games that commence Saturday in Gulu, Uganda.

The team, which is making a return to the regional showpiece after a five-year absence, is ready to make up for lost time.

St Anthony’s coach John Wanyama aware of the enormous task ahead, is oozing confidence of taking the team all the way to the final.

“We lost to Upper Hill through penalties in the national finals in Nyeri last month due to injuries of two key players.

“The team is now solid and with adequate training we are raring to go and win our second title since 2002,” said Wanyama.

St Anthony’s was the first Kenyan school to win the regional football title during the inaugural edition in 2002.

Since then, no other Kenyan team achieved the feat until last year in Eldoret, when Barding from Saiya County broke the jinx to lift the title.

Upper Hill are travelling to Uganda as national champions with St Anthony’s as first runners up, while Kakamega’s Green Commandoes were second runners up.
