St John’s Kaloleni crush Tanzanians

Mwanahalima “Dogo” Adam scored a brace as St Johns Kaloleni beat Alliance of Tanzania 3-0 in a girls’ football match at the Brookside East Africa School Games in Eldoret.

Hellen Ochieng scored the first goal for St John’s in the 16th minute after collecting a pass from Harambee Starlets striker Adam Adam in the Pool ‘B’ match.

St Johns Kaloleni literally reduced the game into half field as they pinned Alliance in their territory aseither side made spirited efforts to change the scores. After the break, Adam dribbled through the Alliance defence and fired from 20m.

St John’s coach Joseph Oyoo maintained his first 11 eleven, but Alliance made changes, bringing in three players. The crowd went into a frenzy Adam received a pass and the 19-year old blasted home a classic goal in the 68th minute after outwitting two defenders and the goalkeeper.

St Johns bagged their second victory after beating GS Remera of Rwanda 2-1 in their first match. Coach Oyoo attributed the good results to team spirit. He said: “We came to this games prepared to win,” captain Adam said.

Team captain Adam said: “We came to this games prepared to win and that is what we are doing.”

St John’s face Masaka of Uganda Wednesday morning.

In boys’ football, Kenya’s Bukembe floored Basile Boys of Burundi 3-1 while St Mary’s Kitende registered a 3-0 win over Gisenye of Rwanda.

Basile opened the scoring through Pascal Niyonguru in the 19th minute but Bukembe’s Wycliff Wanyonyi cancelled it in 35th minute.

Patrick Otieno added another goal for the Kenyans just a minute to end of the first half as Bukembe went to the breather with a 2-1 lead.

On resumption, Otieno was on the mark again in the 70th minute. On Sunday, Nzoia Region champions Bukembe, drew 1-1 with St Mary’s Kitende of Uganda.
