Upper Hill on Saturday retained their sevens rugby title as the Nairobi County secondary schools Term Two ‘A’ Games ended at Nairobi School.

Upper Hill thrashed Ofafa Jericho High School 48-0 in the final to claim their second County title.

In handball, Makongeni High and New Jogoo Road retained boys’ and girls’ titles after edging out Aquinas and Buru Buru Girls in the respective finals.

Makongeni beat Aquinas 18-15 while Jogoo Road saw off Buru Buru 13-12 in a nail-biting final. Olympic Girls beat Maina Wanjigi 5-0 to win the newly-introduced Under-16 girls’ football title. Upper Hill saw off Strathmore 22-7 in the semi-finals while Ofafa Jericho edged the hosts 7-5 to reach their first Cup final.

GAVE THEIR ALL

Ofafa Jericho seemed to have given their all in their semi-final win over Nairobi School, and they seemed fatigued heading into the final against Upper Hill.

Max Omondi starred for Upper Hill with a hat-trick of tries, with Johnstone Olindi and Bruce Abinta each grabbing two tries in the one-sided affair.

Smith Rolf and Tony Nyakundi also got their names on the score sheet with one try each and Saidi Abdalla scored a penalty conversion.

Upper Hill captain Phares Mbadi was delighted with the result.

“We expected a close final but it was surprisingly easy for us throughout the encounter. Our focus now shifts to defending our regional title in Makueni,” Mbadi said on Saturday.

ACHIEVED TARGET

Ofafa coach James Kiali said his target was making the Metropolitan Games despite the heavy loss. “We were exhausted after giving our all in the semi-final and that affected our performance in the final. We will get our revenge against Upper Hill in the regional games,” Kaili said.

Strathmore finished third after beating Nairobi School 19-14 in the play-off. Muhuri Muchiri won the Plate title after a 31-0 win over Aquinas, and Highway took Bowl after beating Makini 14-0. Jamhuri were crowned Shield winners after seeing off Dagoretti High 17-12.

In handball, Makongeni’s Hillary Lagat was voted the Most Valuable Player. Buru Buru’s Chrisanta Mkasumbuka took the award in the girls’ category at the championship.
