Champions Upper Hill School on Sunday retained their rugby 15s and basketball titles as the Nairobi Region Term One Secondary School Games ended at the Nairobi School.

Upper Hill beat the hosts 12-3 in the rugby 15s final. They then edged out Highway Secondary School 80-27 in the basketball final. However, Upper Hill were unable to complete a hat-trick of titles after they lost 3-2 to Dr Ribero Parklands in the boys' hockey final.

Buruburu Girls retained their basketball crown after defeating Parklands Arya 60-46 in the final. Moi Girls also kept their hockey title after a 1-0 win over Parklands Arya. Forward Jeriah Nyanchama sounded the board after eight minutes.

Tries from Jonathan Madruguda and Saidi Abdalla coupled with a try from Solomon Munyaka handed Upper Hill the win in the closely fought final.

Spencer Ochieng had scored a penalty drop goal for the hosts but it was not enough as Upper Hill held on to clinch the title.

"It was a tough final, they pushed us all the way but we were able to use our wide players to stretch them and get the tries," Upper Hill coach Victor Walgwe said.

Upper Hill had beaten Ofafa Jericho 12-3 in the last four while Nairobi School beat Lenana School 3-0 in the other last four encounter.

Buruburu once again got the better of their arch-rivals Arya in a charged final. Buruburu led 18-10 at the end of the first quarter before they outscored Arya 15-14 in the second quarter to lead 33- 24 at half time.

The Eastlands based school took the last two quarters 19-16 and 8-6. Maureen Nyanganyi starred for the winners with 15 points while Arya's highest scorer was Dorsila Okode, who sunk 11 points.

"We were impressive offensively and also did some nice work shutting out their fowards and this allowed us to control the match," Buruburu coach Julius Otieno said.

Enroute to the final, Buruburu Girls beat Moi Girls 74-14 while Arya were 53-11 winners over St Hannah's. Despite losing their hockey final to Moi Girls for the second year in a row, Arya will compete at the nationals.

Arya had beaten Mount Laverna 2-0 in the semis while champions Moi Girls defeated former winners Hillcrest 3-0 in the other last four clash.

The top two teams in rugby and hockey will represent the region at next month's Nationals while only the basketball winners will be at the nationals.
