African Hockey queens Telkom Orange have vowed to continue with their dominance both locally and continentally.

The team jetted back in the country on Monday evening after wrapping up a successful campaign in the African Hockey Championship by collecting their seventh Club title after beating hosts Bulawayo Athletic Club (BAC) 7-0 in the final on Sunday.

Orange - who are coached by Jos Openda - will be looking to complete a double by retaining their league crown when they take on Vikings in the semifinal on Saturday as they chase a final slot.

Openda told journalists at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport that his team prevailed due to early preparations, team work and discipline.

“The girls played well in every game and were rewarded with victory. We want to keep this momentum going into the league decider and also future competitions,” Openda said.

OLYMPICS QUALIFIERS

Openda - who is also the national women’s coach - said his main task now is to focus on the Olympic games qualifiers when they take part in the second round of qualifiers next year in Uruguay.

A buoyant Openda said that his team - which will be eyeing their maiden appearance in the Olympics - would have won the final by the same margin regardless of the team they faced warning that his team would dominate for years to come.

Orange - who have won the local league title a record 16 times - will now keep the continental trophy after winning it for a third time in a row, a first for a Kenyan club.

Skipper Betsy Ommala called on her team mates to carry their winning mentality to this weekend’s matches and prove their worth by retaining the league title.

“It will be a nice end to a remarkable season if we can win the league crown which is achievable as we are only two matches from achieving it,” Ommala added.

Kenya’s other representative Strathmore Scorpions who finished fourth in the tourney arrived in the country early Tuesday morning.
