  • Malindi’s Joseph Owino (heavyweight) had to bow down to Cassidy as he settled second to pocket Sh20,000 with Robert Abonyo (light heavyweight) from Thika coming in third.
  • Hassan Juma (welterweight) from Kisii, who won his category at Mr Kenya for fourth overall place, found himself finishing in similar position at Mr Musclemania.

Former Mr Kenya, William “Manman” Cassidy, is this year’s Mr Musclemania winner.

The Kisumu-based Cassidy, 39, who had earlier won the middleweight category, flexed a well-toned body to victory, beating five other equally good musclemen, who had won their respective categories at Nairobi’s Vishal Oshwal Plenary Hall on Saturday.

Seasoned Cassidy, who won the 2009 Mr Kenya, had secured a second overall position during the Mr Kenya three weeks ago in a championship that was staged at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Cassidy got a winner’s purse of Sh40,000 in addition to a glamorous trophy in an event that drew contestants from Uganda, Malawi and Tanzania.

Malindi’s Joseph Owino (heavyweight) had to bow down to Cassidy as he settled second to pocket Sh20,000 with Robert Abonyo (light heavyweight) from Thika coming in third.

Hassan Juma (welterweight) from Kisii, who won his category at Mr Kenya for fourth overall place, found himself finishing in similar position at Mr Musclemania.

Ugandans Lameck Muwanga (lightweight) and Kasibande Musa (bantamweight) settled for fifth and sixth places respectively in the championship that was organised by Mombasa Modern Fitness in conjunction with Kenya Body Building Federation (KBBF) and Ultimate Sports Nutrition (USN).

Cassidy edged out Marvin Okello (Kitale) and George ONyango (Nairobi) to win in middleweight contest while Owino reigned in heavyweight, beating Simon Randa (Kisumu) and James Omollo (Nairobi) to second and third respectively.

Abonyo beat Paul Mwangale (Kericho) and Tanzania for light heavyweight top honours while Juma went for welterweight after dismissing Issa Musoma (Nairobi). Muwanga won the Lightweight as Kenya’s duo of Duncan Paul and Zablon Osiemo settled second and third.

Musa waylaid Kenya’s Enock Evusa and Evans Nabaya from Malawi for bantamweight victory.

Sheetal Kotak, who won Miss Figure contest during Mr. Kenya, dominated again to go for a brace at Mr. Musclemania. Elegant Celestine Barasa was all smiles after winning the Bikini contest as Agnes Muroyo and Sharon Njoroge from Nairobi followed in that order.

KBBF chairman Chris Omedo said action now moves to the coastal city of Mombasa for the 2015 Mr and Ms Modern Fitness on December 5 at the Mombasa Modern Fitness Gym.
