Kenya won their first HSBC Sevens World Series points of the season by beating Tonga 19-0 to secure the Bowl title on Saturday.

Tries by Biko Adema, Sidney Ashioya and captain Humphrey Kayange carried them to victory.

Earlier the Kenyans were the first side through to the final with a last-gasp win against Scotland, Biko Adema crossing after the buzzer for a 15-12.

In their quarter final the Kenyans had also left it late, trailing 14-12 for the entire second half against Canada before Andrew Amonde crossed in the last play of the match.

Vaea Tangilau Poteki had scored both of Tonga's tries as they beat the Cook Islands 12-7 in the semi finals.

On Friday, Kenya’s splendid first half leads proved futile as they succumbed to IRB World Sevens Series champions Samoa, Australia and Tonga at the Wellington Sevens.

Kenya led 14-5 before losing to Samoa 21-24 and were to blow up a 14-7 lead at intervals to go down 19-21 to Australia.

What could have been their second win from nine pool matches since the Series opened in Dubai never happened after they squandered the first half’s 10-5 advantage losing 10-17 to Tonga.

That saw Kenya finish bottom in Pool C to subsequently drop to Bowl.

Arguably, their performance showed improvement especially in their physical conditioning as compared to the first two legs.
