Defending champions Kakamega High and Shimba Hills maintained the perfect run in the rugby and netball disciplines respectively, as the Brookside Kenya Secondary School Championships entered its second day at Mangu High School Wednesday.

In rugby, Kakamega High followed up the 36-6 win against Kangaru High in their opening match by blanking a hapless Alliance High 45-0 in a one sided duel played at a water-logged pitch.

The victors raced into a 14-0 lead by the break, with Edgar Khafumi touching down in the opening moments before Billy Esabwa successfully converted.

Brian Campbell added the second try and Esabwa did the rest as the physically imposing Kakamega County-based institution controlled the proceedings against a naive Alliance.

The losers were clearly out-played and out-muscled out of the game with dependable trio of Ian Mwangi, Temba Murage and Stanley Ngereso failing to find the spark.

Further tries by Bush Muale, Joseph Amalemba and Esabwa sealed the emphatic result that assured the reigning champions of a place in the last four of the competition.

In another match, Nairobi school succumbed to a second successive loss following the 12-0 loss to Kangaru in an action packed duel.

Jackson Mwiti and Bernard Kitongo masterminded the victory with two tries, with James Machoka successfully converting the first touch-down.

Nairobi Schools’ Gilbert Macharia was stretchered off in the second half after suffering a mild concussion. He was treated at a nearby medical centre and discharged.

“He didn’t lose consciousness; I have administered an injection to ease the pain and ordered him to have a full day’s rest,” Sakina Stella, a St John’s Ambulance nurse confirmed.

In netball, Shimba Hills outclassed Furaha 85-1 to book a last four slot. Shimba Hills led 42-0 at half-time.

Atieno Vivian and Mercy Nyambura masterminded the victory for the coastal based side.

Tetu also emerged victorious following a 44-23 mauling of Nduluku.
