Kenyan franchises Kifaru and Chui received a shot in the arm following major sponsorships from UAP Insurance and Bollore Africa Logistics ahead of this year’s Bamburi Rugby Super Series.

Chui, who will don Bollore jerseys, on Thursday received Sh5 million while UAP Kifaru got Sh2.5 million in sponsorship for the tournament which gets underway Friday at the Kyadondo Rugby Football grounds, Kampala.

This year’s tournament will be contested by six teams from Kenya and Uganda. Kenya will be represented by defending champions Ndovu, Papa, Kifaru and Chui while Victoria and Rwenzori are the two Ugandan franchises.

Chui, which is made up of players from Kenya Harlequin, Impala and Nondescripts, are in Pool A with Ndovu (Nakuru, Western Bulls) and Victoria.

Pool B comprises Kifaru (Kenyan Universities sides), Rwenzori and Papa (KCB, Mwamba, Homeboyz).

Chui and Victoria will play the first match of this year’s edition of the tournament at 2pm before last year’s losing finalist Rwenzori lock horns with Kifaru at 4pm.

The sponsorship package announced by Bollore Africa Logistics Regional CEO for East Africa,  Jason Reynard, will cover expenses incurred by the team during the tournament and repair of new offices for the Kenya Rugby Union at the RFUEA grounds.

Reynard said the sponsorship is in line with the firm’s commitment to nurturing talent. He attributed the great milestones made in 15’s rugby to the tournament.

“Sport is a powerful tool for personal development. Having played rugby in Kenya, I can attest to the positive impact that sport has in building character and developing transferable life skills,” Reynard said.
