  • The Elliptics seek to reward players, managers, referees and others who have contributed to the development of the Kenya game over the years

Public voting at fans-based Ministry of Rugby for the Elliptics Award ends Friday at 6pm ahead of the event’s Gala Dinner on Saturday at Club Barn, Ngong Racecourse.

One of the event’s organisers Thomas Arigi said fans can still sign up on the ministry’s website www.ministryofrugby.com to vote in the 12 categories at stake.

A panel of judges comprising referees, rugby reporters and fans elected three nominees in each of the 12 categories before throwing to the Rugby Fanatics, whose votes will comprise 70 per cent of the final decision.

Arigi said Saturday’s gala will start at 8pm and one of the highlights of the evening will be the inductment of one of Kenya’s rugby greats to the Hall of Fame.

The Elliptics seeks to reward players, officials and other stake holders that have made a mark especially those who have been forgotten yet they have contributed to the development of the game behind the scenes.

Voice their thoughts

“Over the years, there have been all sorts of awards ceremonies that reward players with no reference to those that mean most to the game, the fans,” said Arigi.

“With Elliptics, a chance has been given to them to voice their thoughts about what made them happiest over the season.”

Elliptics, derived from the word “elliptic” meaning oval shaped, is a unique fete of the players, officials and supporters of the game from all spheres picked and honoured by the fans.

The National XVs team skipper Innocenent “Namcos” Simiyu (Impala), his sevens counterpart Humphrey Kayange (Mwamba) and explosive Kenya Harlequins winger Peter Abuoga are nominees for the Elliptics Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Year (male).
