Cabinet Secretary for Sport Hassan Wario has met the Rugby Patrons Society and the Kenya Rugby Union sponsors following sad state of affairs at the union.

Wario, who visited the Kenya Sevens team training at the RFUEA grounds on Wednesday, was on a fact-finding mission following resignation by the union’s officials and allegations of financial impropriety by some board members of the union.

Warning that the government would not allow some individuals to mess up the game, Wario said he would convene another meeting with the acting KRU chairman Gabriel Ouko and CEO Ronald Bukusi to find a way forward.

Rugby Patrons had expressed concern over the happenings at the KRU board. The patrons raised the red flag over corrupt dealings at the union, citing the organisation of the Bamburi Rugby Super series and Safaricom Safari Sevens tournament.

“I have met the Rugby Patrons officials who have briefed me about their concerns and I will meet the sponsors tomorrow,” said Wario, who delivered a gift from President Uhuru Kenyatta to team skipper Andrew Amonde.

“I want to talk to the sponsors and see areas they can strengthen.”

The visit follows resignation of KRU chairman Mwangi Muthee and directors Peninah Wahome, Godwin Karuga and Maurice Masiga.
