KCB claim national series at Christie 7s

  • Fabian Olando converted one. Kenya Sevens player Eden Agero scored two tries for Quins before converting one but it was not enough to stop KCB.

Good preparation and management paid off for KCB when the bankers clinched their maiden Safaricom National Sevens Series title.

After finishing second in two previous seasons, KCB beat Kenya Harlequin 17-12 in the Christie Sevens final on Sunday to seal their series victory in style.

Kenya Sevens skipper Andrew Amonde scored a brace of tries and Edwin Salamba added another to see KCB earn a slot at the Safaricom Safari Sevens due September 20 to 22 in Nairobi.

Fabian Olando converted one. Kenya Sevens player Eden Agero scored two tries for Quins before converting one but it was not enough to stop KCB.

Homeboyz beat Impala 12-7 in extra time in the third and fourth place play-offs.

KCB, who had earlier claimed the Driftwood and Prinsloo Sevens titles, seized the series title with 96 points with Quins, who were the series defending champions, finishing second with 82 points. Dala Sevens champions Strathmore, who edged out Nondies 14-12, came third in the series with 76 points.

It was Amonde, who led KCB from the front, touching down their first try after slicing through before dashing to score. Olando’s conversion went wide.

The bankers won the lineout in Quins 22 with Amonde making the break before offloading to Salamba to score.  Olando converted. Agero was to score two tries with a conversion before the break to level 12-12.

KCB dominated the second session but  break through only came in the dying minutes when Amonde tore from the maul to make the winning try.
