National Sevens circuit champions KCB on Sunday thrashed Quins 24 -0 to lift the Kabeberi Sevens at the Nairobi Railways Club.

KCB dominated from start to finish racing to a 7-0 lead courtesy of international Oliver Mangeni’s cross over that was converted by Jacob Ojee.

Ken Moseti’s trickery saw him ghost past the Quins’ defence to score the second try of the game as the champions went 12-0 up at the break.

At the restart a resolute KCB pinned back Quins in their own half to show their dominance.

Mangeni, who was voted the tournament’s most valuable player,  scored his second try of the game and KCB’s third after being put through by Ojee. Ojee converted to finish the compliment.

It was an impressive display by the bankers who, on account of their performance at Railways, will be the team to beat in this national circuit.

Quins were lucky to scrap through against new comers Catholic Monks in the quarter finals but were different side in the semis.

The commanded proceedings against last’s year’s winners Homeboyz leading 19-0 at half time courtesy of two tries from Kevin Keegan either side of an Arthur Ochieng try.

Homeboyz came back guns blazing in the second half, tries from Leonard Mugaisi and Oscar Ayodi bringing them to within seven points.

TURNED VILLAIN

Ayodi turned villain as he was sent off for decent. This proved costly as Clay Gendon took full advantage to give Quins an unassailable lead, his converted try putting the quartered shirts 26-12 up.

Mugaisi’s try for Homeboyz was nothing but scant consolation. KCB on the other hand held on to beat a charged up Strathmore Leos 17-14 in a thrilling semi-final.

Homeboyz finished in third place after beating Strathmore 21-12.

Impala came back from the death to beat Catholic Monks 21-19 in the Plate final.

Mean Machine won the Shield after beating Kisumu 21-0. Nondies beat Daystar 27-7 to walk away with the bowl.

KCB now top the standings after their victory with 22 points and will head into the Dala Sevens as favourites.

Quins are second with 19 points while last year’s winners Homeboyz are third with 17 points. In fourth place with 15 points are Strathmore while Impala round off the top five places with 13 points. The series moves to Kisumu this weekend for the Dala Sevens.
