Kenya Commercial Bank coach Curtis Olago says his side is ready to defend their Impala Floodlit title when competition starts on Saturday at the Impala Sports Club.

The bankers, who are seeking their fifth Floodlit title, face formidable Mwamba, who have won the season-opening diadem thrice, in their quarterfinal clash.

“The boys will definitely put their best foot forward to retain the title, but my focus really is to test my upcoming players for the new season,” said Olago. “We are at the top of our pre-season training and what I am trying to do is build on the culture of winning and high performance.”

KCB won the Impala Floodlit in 2005, 2007, 2013 and 2014.

They handed Quins a comprehensive 30-3 defeat to retain the title last year. Even though KCB have managed to sign international fly-half Kenny Andola from Strathmore, Olago said he will not field some of his experienced players at the Floodlit event.

Among the players Olago will keenly be watching are second row Edwin Otieno, eighth man  Peter Waitere, lock Jack Sule and back James Kilonzo.

“We are the team to beat in the coming season by virtue of winning all the major titles last season,” said Olago.

Mwamba coach John Mbai said they had a good draw in KCB as their first game of the season.

“It’s good to start the season with a strong team,” said Mbai, who will field a top side for the match. “I have not had players leaving even though there have been some talks. The good thing is that I have retained a big chunk.”

The winner will play the victor between Homeboyz and Nondies in the semis.
