Champions Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) registered two victories as the Great Rift 10-a-side rugby tournament got under way on Saturday at the Nakuru Athletics Club.

The bankers, displaying a flowing game complete with good ball handling and brilliant runs, hammered rookies Bungoma 33-0 in their first match and followed it up with a 38-12 thrashing of Comras to stay on course for today’s Main Cup finals.

But Comras atoned for this defeat at the hands of the bankers when they beat the hapless Egerton University 15-10 but the Njoro-based students Egerton regrouped to avenge the defeat by beating the tournament’s whipping boys Bungoma 32-7.

Last year’s finalists Mean Machine  from the University of Nairobi showed their hunger for the title that has eluded them for more than a decade when they overrun fellow students Kenya College of Accountancy (KCA) 29-0.

As if stung by  bees, the University of Nairobi lads  went on to beat Multimedia University 38-5 in their second outing as they stepped up their campaign to reach the last two in the 25th edition of the tournament.
