Lock Andrew Chogo touched down twice as Homeboyz stunned champions Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) 27-22 for the first time in a riveting Kenya Cup rugby match at the RFUEA ground on Saturday.

Homeboyz, who still have a match at hand against Strathmore could take the lead if they continue with their winning form.

It was sweet revenge for Homeboyz who lost 5-41 to KCB in the Kenya Cup to finish fifth and 0-28 in Enterprise Cup final last season.

KCB’s title defence has been lukewarm. So far, the champions have won five matches, lost three and drawn once. They were beaten by Quins 14-20, lost 25-27 to Strathmore and drew 27-27 with Western Bulls.

In the match against KCB, Joshua Chisanga and winger Alvin Otieno supplemented Chogo’s efforts with a try apiece before fly-half Haron Lubisia made two conversions for Homeboyz and a penalty for the bonus point victory.

BONUS POINT VICTORY

The bonus point victory enabled Homeboyz swap third place with KCB with 34 points from seven wins and a loss. The bankers have 31 points.

Impala Saracens remained in command in the league standings, despite squandering a 13-0 lead to lose 23-25 to Kenya Harlequin in a Ngong Road derby.

Impala Saracens, who got a bonus point for not losing with more than seven points, tie on 36 points with Quins but Sarries boast of a superior aggregate.

It was the second time Quins had the better of Impala this season, having won 29-22 victory in season’s opener.

It was all smiles for Impala players after their sponsor Resolution Insurance delivered a cheque of Sh 800,000 in match bonuses after their tie.

Nakuru and Strathmore improved their tallies to 31 and 29 but remained fifth and sixth, respectively. Nakuru beat Blak Blad 48-0 while Strathmore hit Thika 78-8.

Mwamba scaled once place to seventh after they recovered from 19-27 defeat by KCB to down Machine 38-15.
