Kenya sevens storm quarters for tough Fijian date

Kenya will battle Fiji at the Sydney Sevens Cup quarter-final on Sunday after winning two matches to finish second in Pool “B” on Saturday.

Series leaders and Cape Town Sevens winners South Africa had earlier obliterated Scotland 33-7 and Russia and 40-0.

They now meet Argentina, who finished second behind Fiji in Pool “C.”

In other Cup quarters, New Zealand are up against USA while hosts Australia will meet England.

It will be the first time Kenya and Fiji are meeting since the 2013/2014 season. Fiji won all the encounters.

Oscar Ouma got the proceedings going against the Russians with a try but Eduard Filalov levelled matters 5-5.

Oscar Ayodi returned Kenya to the top as Biko Adema converted for a 12-5 half time score.

William Ambaka ran the length of the pitch for his 50th try of the series with Ouma wrapping up his brace to send Kenya clear.
German Davydov landed a late consolation try for the Russians.

Kenya breathed easy after the hooter in the narrow 17-14 win over Scotland. They also have speedster Collins Injera to thank for the win with his last minute last-gasp desperate tackle on Nick Grigg right on the try line.
