Kenya ring the changes for Elgon away tie

What you need to know:

  • Head coach Mitch Ocholla brought in Andola in a tactical move that will see the player switch position with KCB’s Ken Moseti, who moves to inside centre with Brian Omondi dropping to the bench.
  • Cranes go into the match with a new coach John Duncan from Eastern Cape, South Africa. He replaces fellow countryman Joe Beukes, who resigned due to personal business obligations.

Influential Strathmore Leos’ fly-half Kenny Andola has been recalled to Kenya “A” side that takes on Uganda Cranes in the return leg of the Elgon Cup on Saturday in Kampala.

Head coach Mitch Ocholla brought in Andola in a tactical move that will see the player switch position with KCB’s Ken Moseti, who moves to inside centre with Brian Omondi dropping to the bench.

KCB’s Felix Wanjala, who missed last weekend’s tie where champions Kenya claimed a slim 20-17 victory, replaces scrum-half Eden Agero who has been dropped from the squad. In all, Ochola has made 10 changes.

Duncan Abuyeka and Ian Minjire replace Essau Otieno and Alvin Otieno at fullback and wing respectively while Sammy Motari replaces William Mawira on the bench.

Ocholla also reshuffled his forward line where Kabras Sugar’s prop Hillary Mwanjilwa and club mate Duncan Mwangi and KCB hooker Peter Kaaria start ahead of McLanhan Sikuku, Francis Akatu and George Asin, who have been benched.

START ON THE BENCH

Davis Makori (Impala Saracens) takes over from Michael Gitau, who starts at the bench, at lock where he will partner Philip Owuor.

Eighthman Charles Omondi, who scored two tries against Cranes on Saturday will start at the bench with Nakuru’s  Dalmus Chituyi starting.

“Our forwards were not up to scratch at the breakdowns where we suffered several turnovers and penalties,” said Ocholla after the slim win last weekend. “Our strike rate and execution were down. We missed 14 points at the post and want to rectify that with the inclusion of Andola.”

Cranes go into the match with a new coach John Duncan from Eastern Cape, South Africa. He replaces fellow countryman Joe Beukes, who resigned due to personal business obligations.

Former national team player Robert Seguya, took over as interim coach to handle the team at Elgon Cup first leg in Nairobi. Seguya will now be Duncan’s assistant.

Cranes will also be without their influential wing Justin Kimono, who was suspended for two weeks for head butting Kenyan fly half, Kennedy Moseti in the first leg.

Meanwhile, Kenya Lionesses have made one change to the side that played to a 5-5 home draw in the Women’s Elgon Cup last weekend, Winnie Naima coming in for the unavailable Emily Hooper.
