What you need to know:

  • Maseno had beaten St Famillie from Rwanda 27-0 in the opening match at the same venue on Monday.
  • In hockey, Kenyan champions Narok High made a good start, beating Kakungulu High from Uganda by a solitary goal.

Maseno School and St Peter’s Mumias’ rugby 15 teams had their matches stopped halfway after heavily punishing their opponents at this year’s Brookside East Africa Secondary school games at Dar es Salam University Tuesday.

Maseno, who have now qualified for the semi-finals after registering two wins, needed only 35 minutes to crush Morogoro Secondary from Tanzania 62-0 in a largely one-sided encounter.

Albert Obura, who was outstanding in the first game, was at it again combining well with Brian Juma, Anthony Jeremy and Fanuel Aduda for the easy win. They led 57-0 at the break and needed only five minutes of the second half to conclude the game.

Maseno had beaten St Famillie from Rwanda 27-0 in the opening match at the same venue on Monday.

“We are taking precautions because we know the tournament proper starts tomorrow against St Mumias. It’s been a good start even though we had weak opponents. We are happy with the progress so far,” Maseno coach Gilbert Onyango said after yesterday’s encounter. Kenyan champions St Peter’s also needed 41 minutes to see off Morogoro 63-0.

MADE A GOOD START

Gabriel Odero, Horus Alela, and Elvis Namusasi each had two tries while Blasto Juma and Robert Obenga - who also shared the 14 conversions - had a try each. Maseno and Mumias meet Wednesday morning in a match which will decide who tops Group A.

In hockey, Kenyan champions Narok High made a good start, beating Kakungulu High from Uganda by a solitary goal.

Bernard Kimoi scored the lone goal in the 37th minute after receiving a neet pass from Amos Tigoi after Dennis Nganga had done the spade work.
