Modern Coast, Mwamba RFC sign sponsorship deal

  • Impala Saracens, fresh from winning the Kabeberi Sevens last weekend, are the top seeds, headlining Pool “A” that also has Nakuru, Blak Blad and Kabeberi 7s Division two cup winners Makueni.
  • Pool “B” has Kabeberi Sevens runners up Homeboyz, KCB, Kisii and hosts Mombasa. Kenya Harlequin sit in Pool “D” together with Kabeberi plate winners Kabras Sugar, Daystar Falcons and Kisumu.

One of the leading bus company Modern Coast is now the official transport partner of Mwamba Rugby Football Club.

Through the partnership, Modern Coast will give the club Sh3 million this season as well as provide a branded bus for transport during local tournaments and league matches for the 2016/2017 season.

Modern Coast communications manager Jervis Sundays said they are delighted to partner with one of Kenya’s most successful teams and hoped that their assistance will help reinvent the side.

“Our company has grown and with that we believe it is vital to develop and interact with different sectors including our own home grown Mwamba,” said Sundays.

“The idea of giving back to our community is important to us and we have been working passionately to reach this goal.”

The partnership commenced during the annual George Mwangi Kabeberi Memorial Sevens tournament hosted by the club at RFUEA grounds last weekend.

Mwamba chairman Alvas Onguru said their partnership was timely to the club adding that it will go a long way in sorting out the transportation challenges that the club faced.

"This strategic deal demonstrates Modern Coast’s commitment to supporting local sports and specifically the rugby game,” said Onguru.

Mwamba will be out to defend the Driftwood Sevens title this weekend in Mombasa where they are in Pool “C” with Strathmore Leos, Menengai Oilers and Mean Machine.

Mwamba and Menengai Oilers have met twice in the pool stages at the Prinsloo and Kabeberi Sevens, both matches ending in 7-7 and 12-12 stalemates.

Founded in 1977, Mwamba has produced some of the Kenya’s finest rugby players. Olympiads Collins Injera, Humphrey Kayange and Dennis Ombachi are some of the club’s products. Others are former internationals Horace Otieno, John Mbai and Victor Opong.
