Mwamba stunned Nakuru 10-7 in battle for supremacy in pool ‘A’ of Driftwood Sevens as both sides qualified for the main cup quarter-finals alongside champions Homeboyz, Kenya Harlequin and Western Bulls on Saturday in Mombasa.

Horace Otieno and Paul Machanje touched down once for Mwamba to exact revenge against Nakuru, who had beaten them at Dala Sevens quarter-finals. Donald Oluoch converted Martin Owila’s try but the Great Rift side fell short of matching Kulabu.

Mwamba, who had earlier beaten Comras 44-0 and Kabras 26-7, will meet Western Bulls while Nakuru play Quins in the Cup quarters of the tournament that is being held at Mbaraki Sports Club and Aga Khan High School grounds.

Kenya Sevens star Felix Ayange scored a brace of tries while Eric Shikuku touched down once as Quins, winners of Christie Sevens, beat Nondies 21-7 in pool ‘B’.  But it was not not before Eden Agero converted both tries to complete a clean run for Quins, who had beaten Western Bulls 29-5 and Catholic Monks 14-0.

The victory by Quins condemn Nondies to Bowl at the expense of Western Bulls, who beat Nondies 26-5 and Monks 17-0 respectively. Monks had forced Nondies to a stunning 12-12 draw. Defending champions Homeboyz stopped Strathmore 12-5 to top pool ‘C’ following their previous victories against Kisii 38-0 and Blak Blad 35-0. Strathmore wound up second, thanks to their 22-0 and 45-0 thrashing of Blak Blad and Kisii respectively.
