What you need to know:

  • “We have come reclaim the title, and our opponents should be afraid of this team as we have what it take to be crowned champions,” Laiser Hill guard Ryan Otsimi said.
  • Girls basketball regional champions Parklands Arya will begin their title defence against Mua Hills of Makueni as Laiser Hill takes on Barazini in Pool B.
  • Pool A has former national champions Buruburu Girls, Muthetheni, Makueni Girls and PCEA Mbirikani.

A stiff battle is expected Thursday at Upper Hill School when the Metropolitan Regional Games get underway with slots for the national games at stake.

Schools from Nairobi, Machakos, Kajiado and Makueni Counties will do battle in basketball, rugby 15s, hockey, swimming, hepthalon, and decathlon and cross country.

National basketball champions Upper Hill are in Pool B where they will be up against Machakos County winners Lukenya School, debutants Ongata Rongai from Kajiado County and Makueni’s Kilungi Boys.

Upper Hill will take on Lukenya School in their opening match in what promises to be a cracking tie with the latter out to upstage the hosts. Lukenya coach Jeff Muange said his team will relish the opportunity of facing the favourites in their first game.

“It will be an amazing match, we have no fear whatsoever and we will go into the match full of confidence that we can get a result that will help us move ahead,” Muange said.

The other Pool B match will see Ongata Rongai take on Kilungu.

Former champions Laiser Hill are in Pool A and will begin their campaign against Kasikeu of Makueni.

HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

Laiser Hill lost to Upper Hill in last year’s final in Loitoktok and the two teams could again face off in the final.

“We have come reclaim the title, and our opponents should be afraid of this team as we have what it take to be crowned champions,” Laiser Hill guard Ryan Otsimi said.

In the other match in Pool A, Strathmore, who lost to Upper Hill in the Nairobi County finals, will take on Machakos School who finished second behind Lukenya School.

Girls basketball regional champions Parklands Arya will begin their title defence against Mua Hills of Makueni as Laiser Hill takes on Barazini in Pool B.

Pool A has former national champions Buruburu Girls, Muthetheni, Makueni Girls and PCEA Mbirikani.

In rugby 15s, Nairobi County champions Ofafa Jericho will fancy their chances of making it to the nationals. The Eastlands region school is in Pool B together with Makueni Boys, Nkaimurunya of Kajiado and Masii of Machakos.

Pool B is made up of Machakos County champions Mumbuni Boys, Laiser Hill, Lenana and Kitondo of Makueni.

In girls hockey, Metropolitan champions St Joseph’s Kibwezi will be in Pool B together with Thomas Fish of Kajiado, Mt Larvena of Nairobi and Matuu Memorial of Machakos. Pool A consists of former champions Moi Girls Nairobi, Kiundani of Machakos, Barazani and Elerai Girls of Kajiado.
