A Kenyan looks likely to take up the job of coaching the Uganda XV side.
According to the Daily Monitor, the Ugandan Rugby Union recommended and ratified the appointment of Ham Osando two weeks ago.
The paper says Mr Osando will handle Uganda for four months before his position is reviewed. No formal announcement has been made.
Reached for comment Mr Osando could neither deny or confirm his appointment. “I have been in negotiations with the Ugandan Rugby Union. We are still negotiating,” he told the Nation on Wednesday.
On February 5, URU advertised for coaching positions for all the national teams from Under-16, Under-19 and Under-20 and the senior side.
Playing days
The Monitor reports that Ugandans Sam Ahamya and Herbert Wafula together with Mr Onsando applied for the senior job that was vacated by New Zealand-trained Yayiro Kasasa.
Mr Osando, who had stints coaching Kenya XV in the mid 1990s, Kenya Sevens in the late 1990s and multiple Kenya Cup champions Harlequins has been quietly making a name in Uganda where he has worked over the past decade.
A useful lock in his playing days, Mr Osando is credited with the recent success of top division side Entebbe Mongers and has been entrusted by URU to handle Rwenzori, one of two Uganda franchise sides that will participate in the forthcoming Bamburi Super Series.
