Four-time champions Kenya Commercial Bank are among eight top Kenya Cup clubs that will battle out at this year’s Impala Floodlit that starts on October 17 at the Impala Sports Club.

KCB, who won the season-opening diadem in 2005, 2007, 2013 and 2014, will be joined by last year’s losing finalists Kenya Harlequin, who have won it thrice and Nakuru, who are seeking their maiden title.

Also in the race of the 2015/2016 Floodlit crown are Mwamba, who have won the title thrice, six times winner and hosts Resolution Impala and Nondies, who are seeking a third title.

Homeboyz and Kabras Sugar are also in the mix.

The University of Nairobi’s Mean Machine, that is most successful team in the tournament, have won the title nine times, but will miss action this year after failing to finish in the top eight in Kenya Cup league last season.

Tournament director Willy Ombisi disclosed that the Clubs tournament will once again start at the quarter-finals stage and the draw will be done today at the Impala grounds.

KCB, the Kenya Cup and Enterprise Cup holders, handed Quins a comprehensive 30-3 defeat to retain the Impala Floodlit tournament title last year.

Nakuru, who won Kenya Cup and Enterprise Cup the previous season, settled for bronze after beating Mean Machine 24-16 in the play-offs.

Blak Blad from Kenyatta University, who retained the Universities title last year, beating United States International University 20-16, will once again be the team to beat in that category.

However, they face among others Mean Machine, who will be among the favourites at this level.

LAISER OUT TO DEFEND TITLE

Also to be drawn in the Universities contest are USIU, Strathmore, Catholic Monks,  Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Kenya College of Accountancy (KCA) and Technical University of Kenya (TUK).

Laiser Hill are due to defend their Schools crown. Laiser Hill edged out the 2013 champions Ofafa Jericho 30-10 to lift their maiden title last year. The two schools will be joined by six-time champion Nairobi School and Lenana - who have won it thrice - and Dagoretti among others.
