Woeful Kenya fall to Russia in Paris Sevens

Kenya Sevens’ hopes of ending the 2016-2017 World Rugby Sevens Series in a flourish is proving a cropper as they lost to Argentina and minnows Russia to finish last at Paris Sevens.

Shujaa lost to the Pumas 12-7 in Challenge Trophy quarterfinals before the Russians embarrassed them 15-7 in the semi-final for 13th place.

Yury Gostyuzhev exhibited some nice foot work all the way to smash down Russia's first try after scintillating piece of switch play that left Kenya's Eden Agero flat-footed.

The Russians went 10 up at the break when Alexey Kapalin broke away to score on debut as Shujaa couldn’t keep possession in contact and in their rucks.

Kenya finally got on board after Dennis Ombachi and Samuel Oliech combined well before Oliech finished off.

The cheering partisan crowded couldn’t just inspire Shujaa, who were deflated further when Vladislav Lazarenko dug in their third try.

It was Shujaa’s worst show this season since Sydney where they only got two points. They will only get one point from Paris.

Shujaa now looks forward to London Sevens, the last leg of the Series this weekend.

Surprise pack Scotland were due to meet England while South Africa were up against New Zealand in the Cup semi-finals. Scotland downed Fiji 24-10, England humbled USA 26-12, Blitzbokke edged out Samoa 12-0 while All Blacks tossed out hosts France 14-0.
