Mr Fanuel Mwita Marwa, the director of Vision Security Company, Kisumu was headed to the airport on Tuesday night to drop a security guard, Mr Michael Roswe, when he was ambushed by a gang of about five men who slashed him in the head.

The gang also assaulted the guard and left him unconscious before escaping in Mr Marwa’s car. They took his phone. The businessman’s body was found in a thicket hours later.

The guard is admitted to the Nyanza Provincial General Hospital. According to one of his employees, the businessman left his office around 7.30pm for the airport.

“He instructed me to go to Milimani estate as he dropped a security guard at the airport. I was to wait for his call,” Mr Anthony Odinga, a supervisor at the company, said.

Mr Marwa, 33, is said to have stopped by his house in Mamboleo estate to collect some items before heading to the airport. But the two were attacked near Uzima College.

Mr Odinga got worried hours later when his boss had not called him as promised.

“I got a text message saying one of our security guards had been kidnapped. When I called my director’s phone, someone answered telling me they were going to Kakamega and then hung up.

"I sent a message on his number but there was no reply and on calling again the phone was switched off,” he added.

At 10pm, he received a call from the director’s wife that a security guard was admitted to hospital while her husband was still missing.

On interrogation, the guard said where they had been attacked and police officers were sent to the scene where Marwa’s body was found.

Mr Odinga told the Nation that the guard had said two of the five men who attacked them wore police uniforms.

Mr Marwa’s security company was coincidentally the one that guarded the house of Dr Joseph Odhiambo, a scientist with the Kenya Medical Research Institute, who was killed on Saturday night by unknown people. (READ: )
