Zambia authorities have withdrawn defective condoms from the market. A test on the condoms imported from India revealed that they have holes.
The entire batch of scented condoms imported by a Zambian company, Melcome Pharmaceutical, has been confiscated by Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZBS).
“We withdrew the condoms because they failed the test. They have holes,” Ms Dingase Makumba, the spokeswoman of ZBS, said.
In July, ZBS inspectors withdrew hot condoms and endurance condoms. The condoms, imported from the UK, were also alleged to have holes.
The standards body says the confiscation of condoms was done in order to ensure that substandard products do not reach consumers.
