Court lifts order on judges' vetting

The process of vetting judges and magistrates is finally set to start after the Court of Appeal lifted suspension orders Tuesday.
The court ruled that the public interest overrides that of judges and ordered that the vetting goes ahead.
A three Judge-bench had last month put the vetting on hold for 21 days after law student Dennis Mang’are had lodged an appeal against the process.
Mr Mang’are argued that the Act allowing the vetting is illegal as it fails to meet the threshold set by the Constitution.
However, Justices Emmanuel O’Kubasu, Alnashir Visram and David Maraga vacated the order Tuesday.
The vetting board comprises of former Ghanaian Chief Justice Georgina Wood, Mr Justice Fredrick Chomba (Zambia), Mr Justice Albie Sachs (South Africa) and Mr Sharad Rao, a retired director of prosecutions.
The other board members are Roseline Odede (vice chairman), Meuledi Iseme, Prof Ngotho wa Kariuki, Justus Munyinthya, and Abdirashid Abdullahi, while Rueben Chirchir is the chief executive.
