Mavuno fertiliser offers farmers the best deal

Magdalene Koimur, a farmer from from Tembelio, Ainabkoi in Uasin Gishu County has been growing maize crop in the last decade. But production from her farm has been going down despite applying farm inputs from 30 bags to an average of 15 bags per an acre.
She said that last year, she changed her farm fertiliser to Mavuno and yields from the farm went up to between 40 bags and Sh45 per acre last season.
“I was sceptical initially but my neighbour convinced me to get Mavuno fertiliser and I am happy that production went up and I want to encourage other farmers to give a try on this product” says the farmer.
Douglas Miheso, Business development manager from Mavuno fertilisers said that crops like humans require proper nutrients to flourish and as result led to increased farm yields.
He said that crops requires nutrients such as calcium, copper and other minerals that ensures that there crop nourishes to its full-potential.
“The problem is that overtime our soils have become depleted resulting to soil acidity that is why we need to get back these nutrients to the soils. We have come up with a number of blended fertilise that is soil and crop specific,” he added.
He said that there are various products for various crops that will ensure that there are proper yields.
“With the right fertiliser you will end up with good crops with high level nutrients that can also be used as good fodder for your livestock,” said the agronomist.
Previous studies in the North Rift and other parts of the country have linked the drop in crop productivity in the country to high level of acidity and low nutrients in soil.
Dr Narendra Raval the chairman of Devki Group of Companies said that they have been in the industry for the past 40 years and will continue playing a role in supporting farmers.
Dr Raval disclosed that the firm deals with more than 40 different products that include the Mavuno fertiliser assist farmers to increase their produce.
“Our product, the Mavuno fertiliser is soil specific and will guarantee higher yields in the farm. It heals to improve the soil health,” added Dr Raval.
He added that farm clinic was important and they will continue to sponsor such forums to educate more farmers in the country to adopt better farming practices.
He noted that the Kenya can be self-reliant in term of food security if farmers adopt the right farming practices.
“We should not be importing maize; wheat and other farm produce from other countries. We attain food security by farmers adopting the right . . . we need to look at how to assist our farmers to increase their yields,” said Dr Raval.
