Nairobi coffee chain restaurant Café Deli has hired Dutch chef Bas Burgman to drive its three-year expansion.

The restaurant chain announced a Sh300 million expansion plan this year partly financed with a Sh100 million cash injection by private equity fund Grofin.

The coffee house, owned by businessman Obado Obado, currently has three outlets in Nairobi’s central business district.

Mr Obado said the Dutch manager, who has more than 20 years of experience working at top European hotels and restaurants in the Netherlands, France and England, would introduce a fresh approach to the expansion.

“Mr Burgman will help us to maintain international standards at all our branches while staying true to our Kenyan heritage,” said the Cafe Deli boss.

Mr Burgman has also coached hotel and restaurant staff in Peru, Egypt, Cameroon and Zambia.

The Dutchman has already taken the Nairobi job, helping Cafe Deli to refine its menu and implement physical adjustments to guarantee a consistent experience for customers across all branches.
