Leading milk processor Brookside Dairy has assured farmers it will continue buying all their milk despite the anticipated rise in volumes due to the current rains and a recent increase in producer prices.

The firm said it had registered increased supplies of up to 30 per cent from its 160,000 suppliers in the past five days, following a 42 per cent increase in farm gate prices that saw the company adjust its price per kilo to Sh37.

Milk procurement director, John Gethi said the firm recently completed a major upgrade of its raw milk bulking and cooling stations across the country, in anticipation of an upshot in volumes following anticipated heavy rains in April and May.

Raw milk

“We shall continue to provide an assured market for raw milk from our farmers by procuring all contract volumes from them,” Mr Gethi (above) said in Nyeri.

The processor has the largest daily intake capacity in the country at 1.5 million litres, and  is banking on its ultra modern milk powder plant which doubled its intake capacity from a daily average of 750,000 litres.

Gethi said the processor’s increased producer prices had seen more farmers line up to supply milk to the firm.
