At least 500 vulnerable families in Nairobi and Kisumu have received an Easter treat from  businessman Gor Semelan'go.

The families on Friday received food rations and other basic items from Mr Semelan'go and local ward representatives.

Mr Semelang'o, who recently avoided civil jail after settling a Sh3 million debt, was accompanied by Mabatini MCA Wilfred Oluoch and his Ngei counterpart Redson Otieno.

He explained that most of the families, and especially those residing in the lower-income areas such as Mathare and Huruma, have struggled to make ends meet especially after the coronavirus pandemic reduced job opportunities.

"We have some sugar, cooking oil, maize flour and soap for each of these families. They need these items at this time when things are tough. I am motivated to help not because I am rich but so as to share what I have," explained Mr Semelang'o in Nairobi on Friday.

"These items will come in handy and I want to thank our friend for his gesture," Mr Oluoch said.

"Several families are struggling at the moment and we will be hoping that more people come in and share what they have with us at this difficult period."

The government has imposed a dusk to dawn curfew on Kenyans, and also banned both public and private travel into and out of Nairobi and Mombasa in a move aimed at curbing the coronavirus pandemic.

Mr Semelang'o said the distribution of essential goods worth Sh25 million will continue for the next two weeks.
