SIAYA

Seven people were arrested with three bags of bhang at a roadblock on the Kisumu-Siaya highway at the Bondo junction.

Siaya Administration Police Commandant, Mr Paul Murage, addressing journalists in his office in Siaya town Tuesday, said the value of the narcotic drug had not yet been established.

“We have managed to arrest seven suspects who were believed to be transporting three bags of bhang from Kisumu to Siaya town at the Bondo junction road block,” he said.

‘The value of the bhang is still not yet established but once the police are done with the investigations the suspects will be taken to court.”
Police were seeking to establish the owner and the intended destination of the drug, according to the commandant.

The AP boss assured residents of Siaya region that security had been beefed up ahead of Christmas and would be maintained throughout the festive season.

Mr Murage said police officers had been deployed to conduct patrols to ensure safety and security of the residents.

UNDERAGE DRINKERS

He said the patrols would also target under age drinkers and bar owners not complying with the law.

“Our patrols have yielded fruits as we have managed to arrest two young boys and a bar owner,” he said. “We will arraign them in court as they have violated the Kenyan law.”

Mr Murage challenged the residents to cooperate with police in case of any suspicions.

“The task of ensuring security in the county is solely on the residents who we expect should work closely with the police in order for this to be achieved,” he said.
