School bus overturns in Tarakwa, 14 pupils hospitalised

Fourteen Mpopong Boarding Primary School pupils in Narok County were rushed to Tenwek Hospital with various injuries after the bus they were travelling in overturned.
One of the four teachers who were travelling with pupils to Kericho on an education tour was injured in the crash which occurred at around 9:00am at Tarakwa on the Bomet-Kaplong highway.
Thirty-seven other pupils escaped unhurt when the bus which they had hired from Olive Schools in Narok overturned.
“We were traveling to Kericho County with 51 pupils to tour three factories in the multinational tea estates when the accident occurred,” Ms Mary Oldapash told the media at the scene of the accident.
A total of 102 pupils were travelling in two buses, one from Olive Schools and the other from Nkoilale Boarding Primary School.
Bomet OCPD Samson Rukunga confirmed the incident.
“The injured pupils were rushed to Tenwek Mission Hospital with minor injuries,” Mr Rukunga said.
Sources at the hospital told the Nation that the pupils were likely to be discharged in the course of the day.
