A thirty-year-old man on Wednesday hacked his wife, her sister and younger brother, injuring them seriously, before killing himself in Luanda village, Butula in Busia County.

Mr Collins Adongo attacked the three in their house in the morning using a panga under unclear circumstances.

He then proceeded to the neighbouring Mundasia village and hanged himself on a tree using a rope.

A bottle of livestock pesticide was found under the tree where he committed suicide, with foam coming from his mouth and nose, suggesting that he may have taken the poison before hanging himself.

QUARREL WITH WIF

His mother, Getrude Adongo, told Nation that her son had issues with his wife since Friday last week after it emerged that she had used some money he had set aside to buy a motorcycle for boda boda business he intended to start.

“He has been quarrelling with the wife since Friday, accusing her of taking his money intended for boda boda business. Last week he visited his uncles in Murumba who counselled him and promised to refund the money but it seems anger took control of him,” she said.

Mrs Adongo described her son as a humble man who never had issues with anyone.

“We are shocked and saddened by Collins's death. Before this incident he had never quarrelled with anyone and was also a man who loved his wife. This is the work of the devil, I have nothing more to say,” said an emotional Mrs Adongo who could not hold her tears back.

CONDEMNED ACTION

The man’s elder sister, Mildred Adongo, joined other villagers in condemning her brother’s shocking action.

“We don’t condone suicide in this village. It should never happen again because the action paints a bad picture. Yes, he may have killed himself but the memory left behind is a tainted one,” she said.

The hacking victims who suffered injuries on the abdomen and hands are recuperating at Busia County Referral Hospital.

Police officers from Bumala collected the man’s body and took it to Sega Hospital mortuary in Siaya County.

Investigations are ongoing to unravel what transpired before the incident.
