Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has denied claims that his administration has been harassing hawkers in Eldoret Town and other urban centres in the county.

Mr Mandago instead accused his political rivals of making the claims in a bid to unseat him in the August 8 elections.

Addressing vendors on Monday in Eldoret Town, the governor told them not to listen to falsehoods from people who have no agenda.

“We now have a government in office. It is the government that can plan and not an individual who does not have resources to plan. Stop being lied to by people who have no agenda for you at all,” Governor Mandago told the hawkers.

Mr Mandago urged other political aspirants to campaign peacefully instead of resorting to lies to win votes.

He asked the residents to vote him back to office based on what he has achieved and not because of his tribe.

STRAIGHTFORWARD

“As you all know, I am a very straightforward person and in case you feel that I have not performed to your satisfaction then send me home. But if I have performed well, then vote me in without looking at my tribe,” said Governor Mandago.

He at the same time urged hawkers operating in Eldoret Town to join saccos in a bid to boost their operations.

He asked the hawkers to appoint leaders who will spearhead their agenda and engage the regional government in their day-to-day operations.

He said that his administration has erected floodlights and increased operating hours for traders in Eldoret Town.

He also said that his government has improved security in the county.

“My government has done a lot to improve the working environment for hawkers in this county. Previously, most of you could not walk around freely for fear of being robbed,” he said.
