Drama as man climbs mast in Embu to chew miraa

A young man caused a stir Sunday morning when he scaled a communication mast in Majengo, Embu town and started chewing miraa.

Mr Muchiri Kirengo, the security guard on duty at the mast site, Mr Murimi arrived at 3.30am and started scaling the installation setting of an alarm.

"He had climbed up to about 30 metres when we spotted him. We called the police who arrived immediately but that made him climb to the top,” he said.

The man then stripped down to his underwear, and threw his clothes at police officers.

When the Meru disaster management team showed up, the man threatened to jump off, but they managed to calm him down before Embu County fire fighters secured him with ropes then pulled him down.

Police then whisked him away as local residents threatened to lynch him.

The man was taken to Embu Level V Hospital on orders from the local OCS Amina Abdi.

Ms Abdi said the man will later be charged in court.
