A court in Garissa has ordered a repeat extraction of DNA sample from a suspect in a defilement case.

The prosecutor said the sample extracted earlier was damaged because it was not stored properly.

“We would like to request the court to allow us to take the accused back to the hospital for blood samples to be taken again,” the prosecutor told the court.

The Chief Magistrate Cosmos Maundu ordered the suspect Musa Mohamed to be escorted to the Garissa Referral Hospital for the extraction.

The man is accused of impregnating a Class Three pupil in Tana River County on May 5, 2016.

The girl, 13, has since delivered and been readmitted to school.
