Garissa County Woman Representative Anab Subow Gure has launched a Sh10.8 million education bursary through the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF).

The fund will assist students from Garissa County studying in secondary schools and colleges.

The beneficiaries will include disabled students studying within and outside the county.

Ms Gure presided over the fund’s launch over the weekend at Saka Secondary School in Balambala Sub-County.

During the launch, the woman rep presented cheques to secondary school and college principals.

She urged parents to enrol their children in schools as a way of fighting poverty in the region.

She was accompanied by Garissa Deputy Governor Abdi Dagane and a host of other county and national government officials.

The Garissa woman representative said that the bursary is, among others things, aimed at making sure that girls remain in school and consequently reduce teenage pregnancies and improve school transition rates.

She also distributed sanitary towels, also bought through NGAAF, to school girls.
