Ex-Homa Bay MCA arrested over Sharon Otieno murder

A former member of Homa Bay County Assembly spent Sunday night in a police cell after he was linked to the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.

Ex-Kanyadoto Ward Rep Lawrence Mula was arrested and questioned on Sunday evening after Nation journalist Barrack Oduor told police that the ex-lawmaker introduced him to Ms Otieno.

He was held at Homa Bay Police Station and was expected to be arraigned alongside other suspects today.

Homa Bay County Commander Marius Tum confirmed the interrogation but could not state whether Mr Mula would be arraigned.

He was expected to appear before a Homa Bay court alongside Mr Michael Oyamo who is an aide of Migori Governor Okoth Obado.

Mr Oyamo appeared before the court alone, with the prosecution seeking more days to wrap up their investigations.

On Sunday, Director of Criminal investigations George Kinoti said he has watertight evidence that will lead to the successful prosecution of those who planned and executed the kidnapping and subsequent murder of Ms Otieno.

Officers privy to the investigations on Monday told the Nation that that the DCI has dispatched detectives to locations where key persons of interest have been located.

The officers, who sought anonymity because they are not authorised to issue media statements, said the suspects' movements were also being monitored as police wait for directions to arrest them.

Detectives believe a well-organised gang headed by a “god father” and comprising an agent and several hit men carefully planned and executed the abduction and the murder.
