The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has summoned 12 Homa Bay ward representatives over misspending of more than Sh300 million mortgage fund.

EACC deputy director Michael Mubea said apart from the mortgage fund, the commission is also investigating multiple losses of public funds in the assembly.

Among those summoned are Julius Gaya (Karachuonyo Central), former deputy Speaker Osuri Omoro (Ruma Kaksingri Ward) and former Accounts Committee chairman Godfrey Anyango (Kabondo West Ward).

"It’s true the commission is seeking to grill a section of MCAs over loss money in the assembly, but it’s about an ongoing investigation that started even before my election as the Speaker," Speaker Elizabeth Ayoo said, adding that the letter was sent on Monday.

Mr Gaya said he had received a letter ordering him to appear before the commission's officials.

"My colleagues and I have received summons from the commission over loss of millions of shillings related to MCAs mortgage scheme," Mr Gaya said.
