Homa Bay assistant chief dies in road crash

A local administrator in Homa Bay County has died in a road accident.

Kotieno Sub-Location Assistant Chief Erick Owino died on the spot at Meeting point area in Homa Bay Town after he was hit by an oncoming Toyota Probox car. The administrator was riding his motorcycle on Saturday.

“The administrator was riding from Homa Bay towards Rongo town when he collided head-on with an oncoming car,” a witness said.

Homa Bay Township Location Chief Joshua Ochogo said the driver of the Probox car was trying to overtake another vehicle at the time of the accident.

 “The car was moving towards the main bus terminus to pick passengers. It was overtaking another vehicle when he hit the administrator’s motorbike,” Mr Ochogo said.

The vehicle veered off the road and landed in a ditch after the accident. Homa Bay County Police Commander Esther Seroney said the driver ran fled after the accident.

The vehicle was towed to Homa Bay Police Station while the body of the administrator was moved to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital mortuary.
