A 30-year-old man is being held at Homa Bay police station for defiling a 10-year-old epileptic girl.

The suspect is accused of defiling the Grade One pupil on Thursday afternoon in her mother’s house at Otaro village, East Kanyada Location.

According to Kobuola Kogwang’ Sub-location Assistant Chief Alfred Osodo, the suspect lured the minor with Sh150.

“He defied the minor after covering her mouth with a blanket to prevent her from raising an alarm that would attract neighbours,” he said.

He noted that the suspect took advantage of his friendship with the victim’s mother to abuse the minor.

He is said to be regular visitor at the house, and was there when the owner of the house was away.

“The heinous act was discovered by a neighbour who went to the house for a visit. He found the man defiling the minor before raising alarm,” Mr Osodo said.

The suspect tried to run away but was caught by villagers who handed him over to police.

The victim was rushed to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital for medical examination.

Homa Bay County Paralegal Co-ordinator Benard Onyango condemned the incident and told residents to respect the law.

“Children should be protected from sext pests in our county. Everyone should respect the rights of children,” Mr Onyango said.

The suspect will be arraigned in court next week.
