A man riding on a motorbike died in crash involving a military vehicle on the Isiolo-Modogashe road Friday.

The man, who was heading towards Isiolo town, died on the spot after his motorbike collided head on with a military Land Rover that was on its way to the 78 Tank Battalion.

Isiolo Sub-County Police Commander Moses Owiti told journalists that the driver of the military vehicle was trying to avoid a pothole on the road when the crash occurred.

“The driver left his lane to evade a pothole and collided head on with the motorcycle killing the rider on the spot,” said Mr Owiti.

The police boss said they have launched a manhunt for the soldier who escaped from the scene shortly after the incident.

SPEEDING DRIVER

Witnesses who spoke to Nation said the driver of the vehicle was speeding before the crash happened.

Residents claimed that a battery of soldiers arrived at the scene minutes later and hurriedly took away the driver and three other occupants to the nearby barracks.

But the police boss said officials are yet to establish the number of occupants in the military vehicle.

The body of the victim was taken to Isiolo Referral Hospital mortuary.
