  • The IDPs fled from Naivasha, Eldoret, Kisumu, Nakuru, Nyahururu, Kajiado and Nairobi following the post election skirmishes of 2007/2008.

The government on Tuesday embarked on compensating more than 450 integrated internally displaced persons (IDPs) who settled in Isiolo South Constituency.

Garbatulla Sub-County Commissioner Kipchumba Rutto on Monday said Sh22 million had been disbursed to compensate the 453 victims of 2007/2008 post-election violence who resettled within Kinna and Garbatulla.

The DCC held that the programme spearheaded by the National Consultative Coordination Committee (NCCC) under the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National government will see each household receive Sh50, 000.

The IDPs fled from Naivasha, Eldoret, Kisumu, Nakuru, Nyahururu, Kajiado and Nairobi following the post election skirmishes.

“We have a list of genuine IDPs who will receive their payments at Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), Isiolo branch,” said the deputy commissioner.

He urged the beneficiaries to be vigilant not to be exploited by individuals claiming to be intermediaries and asked them to report in case they encounter such cases to police.

Representatives of those IDPs who died before compensation will also receive the payments.
