Dawamu School shines both in drama and KCSE exam

Dawamu School, which has been dominating in the Kenya National Drama and Film Festivals for the last three years, produced two straight As in the 2019 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam.

Benedict Kyalo and John Njoroge both scored A in the exam.

The school, which is in Kajiado County, has been dominating in the national drama festivals.

In 2017 it was position two nationally while in 2018 it emerged position five nationally and in 2019 their play reached the regional level during the Rift Valley Regional Drama Festivals held in Eldoret.

COMMITTED TEACHERS

The school’s Principal Peter Ndirangu attributed the good performance to commitment by the teachers, students and other staff.

“We are not excelling just in academics but also in extra-curricular activities, more so in the drama and film festivals,” he said.

In 2017, the school staged a play about how young talented men in Africa are under immense pressure to abuse drugs in order to enhance their performance in sports.

The play was performed during the gala concert at Meru School and emerged in second position.

In 2018 the school reached the nationals and staged a play on the fight against corruption.

ENJOY LIFE

The school’s Director Claudia Waithaka said besides academics, students also need to unwind and to enjoy life.

“Preparing each student for a life of responsibility and leadership is very important,” Mrs Waithaka told the Daily Nation.

“We have introduced other clubs like Justice Club. We insist on a dedicated work ethic in and out of class,” she added.

She said the school aims at doing even better both in academics and in co-curricular activities.

“We are going to promote this school to achieve even greater heights in academics and drama and music festivals,” she said.
