Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has raised concern over the delay in the construction of the Kisumu-Kakamega dual highway and tarmacking of other key roads in western Kenya.

Mr Oparanya, who is also the chairman of the Council of Governors’ Finance Committee, said the Government needs to give priority to the improvement of infrastructure, and complete the projects within the set deadlines to fast-track development in the region.

He asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to focus on the projects, which include the Sigala-Butere-Sidindi road and the Kakamega-Webuye stretch, during his planned 10-day tour of western Kenya.

BRING INVESTORS

“The delay in implementing road projects to open up the region is frustrating efforts by county governments to bring investors on board,” said the governor.

Mr Oparanya told Ikolomani MP Bernard Shinali to take advantage of his close political association with the Jubilee leadership to have the projects completed before the next General Election.

The county boss spoke during a funeral in Lirhembe Village, Ikolomani Constituency, on Saturday.

He said only 12 kilometres of the Sigalagala-Butere-Sidindi road had been tarmacked in the last five years.

He said the funds allocated to Kakamega should be raised from Sh8 billion to Sh12 billion to enable the county government to operate smoothly.
